How to Make a Photo Background White on Windows

Partly. In Windows 11, open the photo in Paint and click Remove background in the Image group: the subject stays and the rest becomes transparent. The Photos app has Background options in its editor that can blur, remove or replace the background of the photo you have open.

Transparent isn't white, though: many websites and upload forms show a transparent area as black or gray, and JPEG can't store transparency at all. Both apps also work on one photo at a time, and Windows 10's Paint and Photos don't have these options.

File Acture's Remove Background finds the person, animal or product in each photo and places it on the background you choose. Choose Color and click White, and the result is a photo on pure white, with edges that follow hair and fur.

With a color set, you can save as JPEG, the format most upload forms and marketplaces expect; PNG and WebP work too. Each result gets “-no-bg” in its name and the original stays as it was.

Other colors work the same way: pick any color for a brand background or a light gray for a softer look.

• Online applications: check the photo size rules and add Limit file size if there is a maximum.
• Official ID and passport photos: follow the issuing office's rules. Many require a photo taken against a plain background and don't accept edited ones.
