Lift the subject off the background.
Remove Background finds the person, animal or product in a photo and places it on a transparent or plain background, right on your computer. The edges follow hair and fur instead of a hard outline. For marketplace listings, crop to the subject, add padding and make the canvas square — for many photos in one run.

Extract Text reads the words in photos, scans and screenshots — a receipt, a slide, a page you snapped — right on your computer, and saves them as plain text. Choose one .txt file per image or one for the whole batch, with each image's text under its name. When the run ends, the text is already on the clipboard, ready to paste.

Redact PDF purges private information from contracts, bank statements and patient records right on your computer. Enter words to find or toggle built-in patterns for emails, phone numbers, IBANs and credit cards. Matching glyphs are deleted, scanned image pixels are overwritten with solid color, and document metadata is wiped clean — leaving no recoverable trace.

Select a line in the PDF and type. The old letters are removed from the file and the new ones are written in the document's own font, so there's no white box pasted over the text. Add text, sign, erase a stamp.

Search and Find see nothing inside a scanned page. OCR PDF reads it right on your device and writes an invisible text layer into the file. The page looks exactly the same; the words are now searchable, selectable and copyable.
Merge scans into one file, pull out the pages you need, turn sideways pages the right way up, add an AES-256 password or lift one you know. Many files in a single run.
Job portals, email and government forms reject files over a certain size. Type 5 MB and File Acture re-encodes the images inside the PDF until the file fits, while text and vector graphics stay sharp.
Photos from a phone carry GPS coordinates, the camera model and the time they were taken. Remove Metadata strips them before you share. Convert Images turns HEIC, WebP and AVIF into JPEG or PNG in one batch.

There is no upload step, because there is no server that processes files. You can check it yourself: turn off Wi-Fi and run any tool. The result is the same.
You'll sign in with your email first, so your licenses are kept in your account.
Payment is handled by Polar. Taxes may be added depending on your country.
Questions
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Every tool runs on your device. The app contacts our server only to check a Pro license, to count free runs, to look for updates, to send crash and error reports (you can turn these off in Settings) and, if you allow it, to send anonymous usage counts. Files, file names and their contents are never sent.
Do I need an account?
Not to use the app. You create one when you buy Pro: sign in with your email and a one-time code. Your licenses, devices and purchases are kept there.
How many devices does a license cover?
One. Each license activates File Acture Pro on one device. Buying for several computers? Choose how many licenses you need before you pay.
How do I move a license to a new computer?
Sign in on fileacture.com, open your account and press Remove device next to the license. Then paste the same key on the new computer. You can also deactivate it in the app under Settings › License.
What does the free version include?
Every tool, 5 runs a day on each device, up to 5 files per run. Pro removes those limits.
Can I use it without opening the app?
With Pro, yes. On a Mac, select files in Finder, right-click and choose Quick Actions › File Acture…; macOS adds the action switched off, so turn it on once (File Acture's Settings has a button that takes you there). On Windows 11, right-click the files in File Explorer and choose File Acture under Show more options; Windows 10 has no such menu, so open the files with File Acture from Open with. Pick a tool and it runs in the background with the settings you last used; a notification tells you when the new files are ready. In the free version the same menu opens the tool with your files.
Is Pro a subscription?
No. You pay once per license and keep it, including updates.
I lost my license key.
Sign in on fileacture.com with the email you used to buy. Your keys are on the Account page, and they were also sent to you by email.
Which computers are supported?
Macs with macOS 14 Sonoma or later (Apple silicon or Intel), and PCs with Windows 10 version 1809 or later, 64-bit.
Is there a Windows version?
Yes. File Acture for Windows is out, with the same twenty-one tools and the same engine as the Mac app. A license key works on either system — one license per device, as before. iOS, Android and web versions come after it.
Is File Acture on the Mac App Store and the Microsoft Store?
Yes, on both. The Mac App Store version has the same tools; there, Pro is an in-app purchase with your Apple Account that you can restore on your other Macs. That purchase works only in the App Store version, and a license key from this site doesn’t work in it. The Microsoft Store installs the same Windows app as this site, so a license key from here works there too.
