A remove.bg Alternative for Mac That Works Offline

remove.bg runs on its own servers. You upload a photo, it finds the subject and gives you back the cutout. Free downloads are small preview images; full-resolution images use credits, bought one by one or with a monthly plan. There are desktop apps and an API as well, but the photos are still processed by the service.

Other web tools such as Photoroom and Canva's background remover follow a similar model: a free tier with limits, and the best results or batch features in a paid plan. Check each service's pricing page for current details.

On macOS 14 and later, right-click a photo in Finder and choose Quick Actions > Remove Background, or open it in Preview and choose Tools > Remove Background. The photo never leaves your Mac.
