But drawing a black box or changing the text background to black does not protect your data: the text is still stored in the PDF streams and anyone can copy it with Ctrl+C or extract the original image pixels.
Why drawing a black box on a PDF is not redaction
Many people use Edge or basic PDF markup tools to draw black filled shapes over private numbers. In the PDF file format, graphic shapes sit in a visual layer above the text stream. The underlying text remains completely intact, searchable, and selectable.
